Taribo Orubo is a Nigerian systems analyst and musicologist. A native of Okrika,
South-South Nigeria, he was born and raised in the Port Harcourt metropolis of
Rivers State, to Seipirialia Orubo (a grade 12 Civil servant) and Barr. Okombia
Adoki (a private legal practitioner). He was educated at Nigerian Navy Primary
School, and then at Government Secondary School, Port Harcourt. Thereafter, he
proceeded to undertake a degree course in Computer Science at the University of
Port Harcourt. Alongside his professional endeavours, Tari had nurtured a
lifelong interest in music, especially classical music. This is informed by his
natural ability to exploit his voice in mimicking a range of musical instruments including the trombone, trumpet, saxophone and whistle notes, together with vocal dexterity and a scope which covers over five octaves on the musical scale (F#2-B♭7). This prompted him to further undertake and
obtain a degree in music (voice major) also from the University of Port
Harcourt.
Whilst studying at the university, he attended a public lecture in which Nelson Ichrene was a guest. After Nelson’s address on “The Philosophy of Humanism”, he became "completely hypnotised" to have found someone who shares so much of his views about life. Later he was invited by Mr. Nelson to a joint conference with others who would later become The LikeMinds. In his own words, “I was a humanist without knowing it for many years before I found the Organization - when I did, it was like finding a sort of home. Here were people with a range of views that matched my own, who shared my respect for life in all its forms, and who, above all, did not try to bully other people to follow their beliefs. I hold nothing against any religion, including atheists, as long as they show love, grace and respect for fellow humans and other sentient beings. I believe that the complete person is both physical and spiritual. I believe in a free and progressive world.”
